Your Bedroom Furniture Dressers Tips and Tricks!

bedroom furniture dressersAs Decor writers one of the things we are most asked by nearly everyone are, what’s the best tip for this or what’s the best trick for that. So, below we have listed a few of the more common tips and tricks for making the right bedroom furniture dressers purchase. We hope you enjoy them and find them useful and money saving in your shopping experience.

1. If you do choose to go with a dresser that has wooden interior drawer guide rails then pull one or two of the drawers out and both look at and feel the guide rail. Is it super smooth and maybe even coated with a layer of bees wax? Or is it rough feeling and even has a few places where small splinters could start. If you see the later then almost without a doubt you will end up with fine wood dust and small splinters on the tops of your clothes from opening and closing the drawers above. Now it simply becomes your choice as to whether or not you want to put up with wood dust or not.

2. Check for warping. Be sure to bring a yard stick with you to the stores you can leave it in the car until you find a piece you’re serious about. If you happen to have one the metal version is the best as sometimes the wooden ones are not true and strait themselves.

Pull out a drawer and lay the yardstick along the interior guide rail and look for bows, twisting, high spots or low spots. If you see them then the rails were not kiln dried and will warp some as they dry.

Next go behind the dresser and lay the yardstick along the back upper most edge. This will be to see if the dresser top is high on one side and low on the other. If you find this it is only a matter of time before the top splits. The twisting pressure from all the pieces settling and or drying  is putting pressure on the top table and will eventually cause it to crack.

3. Don’t get into a tight spot. Be sure to measure all of your doorways leading to the bedroom in which you will place your piece before you go shopping. Also, measure the tightest spots or turns in any of the hallways that you have to move your bedroom furniture dressers piece through. Nothing is more frustrating than getting all the way home only to find out you can’t get the piece into the room you want. And by the way, that last statement comes from the voice of experience, I did just that very thing several years ago.
