When out shopping one of the very first things you will need to address will be a few of the major quality issues.
Do you want metal or wood drawer guides? Real wood guides are generally associated with what most would consider higher end pieces. However for years to come you will finds wood slivers or very fine sawdust on the tops of your clothes from opening and closing the drawers above them. Metal guides also don’t tend to warp like there wooden counterparts and usually involve less sticking and getting stuck.
Another quality and design issue will be your choice between hand or even machine carved details and accessories or opting for the molded colored resins. Obviously the resins will save you a ton of money up front but will provide difficult repair challenges if you ever chip any of the edges. As you know if you scratch or chip wood you can just sand it out and re-stain it and it looks good as new. With most of the resins beings that they are plastic if you chip them the plastic won’t accept and hold on to the stain so the best you usually get out of it is a blotchy spot. Very small chips or scratches can sometimes be handled with the wood touch up crayons as the wax of the crayon will often stick to the chipped area.

As Decor writers one of the things we are most asked by nearly everyone are, what’s the best tip for this or what’s the best trick for that. So, below we have listed a few of the more common tips and tricks for making the right bedroom furniture dressers purchase. We hope you enjoy them and find them useful and money saving in your shopping experience.
1. If you do choose to go with a dresser that has wooden interior drawer guide rails then pull one or two of the drawers out and both look at and feel the guide rail. Is it super smooth and maybe even coated with a layer of bees wax? Or is it rough feeling and even has a few places where small splinters could start. If you see the later then almost without a doubt you will end up with fine wood dust and small splinters on the tops of your clothes from opening and closing the drawers above. Now it simply becomes your choice as to whether or not you want to put up with wood dust or not.
2. Check for warping. Be sure to bring a yard stick with you to the stores you can leave it in the car until you find a piece you’re serious about. If you happen to have one the metal version is the best as sometimes the wooden ones are not true and strait themselves.
Pull out a drawer and lay the yardstick along the interior guide rail and look for bows, twisting, high spots or low spots. If you see them then the rails were not kiln dried and will warp some as they dry.
Next go behind the dresser and lay the yardstick along the back upper most edge. This will be to see if the dresser top is high on one side and low on the other. If you find this it is only a matter of time before the top splits. The twisting pressure from all the pieces settling and or drying is putting pressure on the top table and will eventually cause it to crack.
3. Don’t get into a tight spot. Be sure to measure all of your doorways leading to the bedroom in which you will place your piece before you go shopping. Also, measure the tightest spots or turns in any of the hallways that you have to move your bedroom furniture dressers piece through. Nothing is more frustrating than getting all the way home only to find out you can’t get the piece into the room you want. And by the way, that last statement comes from the voice of experience, I did just that very thing several years ago.
